Early Decision ruler

With Georgetown Law's rolling admissions process, Early Decision applicants receive the best consideration. Early Decision is binding. Georgetown encourages all applicants to apply as early as possible.

The Early Decision process is designed for those who have already researched their law school options and are certain that the Georgetown Law is their first choice of schools. This process allows such applicants a means of expressing to the Admissions Committee their commitment to attend Georgetown, if admitted.  Any candidate for whom receipt of institutional financial aid is a prerequisite for enrolling should apply under the Regular Action process (see below for details), rather than Early Decision.

Early Decision applications are the first reviewed in our rolling admissions process.

Decision letters are mailed by December 15.   To apply Early Decision, Georgetown Law must receive your application by October 31, and the application must be complete with all required documentation by December 1.  Please be certain to check the "Early Decision" box on your application to indicate your intention to apply under this process and to sign the Early Decision Agreement Form.  To meet the deadlines for Early Decision, you must have taken the LSAT by October 2008.

Because offers of admission extended under the Early Decision process are binding, candidates may not apply to other law schools under similar Early Decision processes. However, if your application is deferred or denied, you are no longer bound by Georgetown Law’s Early Decision commitment and are encouraged to proceed with your applications at other law schools.

Can I apply through Early Decision if I'm taking the October LSAT?

Yes. Your file does not need to be complete with test scores until December 1.  However, if you want us to consider a December 2008 (or later) LSAT score, you will not be eligible for Early Decision.

What possible decisions may I receive?

Admit, Deny, Defer or Waitlist. We defer about 15% of the applicants to the regular admissions process in order to get a better sense of the applicant pool. Deferred applicants are usually sent a decision no later than March 1. Early Decision applicants who receive a Deferred or Waitlist decision are no longer bound to attend Georgetown.

If I get denied through Early Decision, can I apply through the regular admissions process?

No. Early Decision applicants receive the best consideration. Applicants can only apply once per admissions cycle.

Can I apply to other schools for their Early Action programs?

Yes, but if you are admitted under Georgetown's binding Early Decision program, you will be required to withdraw all other law school applications.

Can I apply to other schools for their Early Decision programs?

No.   Because offers of admission extended under the Early Decision process are binding, candidates may not apply to Georgetown and to other law schools under similar binding Early Decision processes.  You can, however, apply to another law school though their regular admissions process; however, if admitted to Georgetown under Early Decision, you will be required to withdraw your applications to all other law schools.
