Historically, state-of-the-art technology is not uncommon to the site of our new buildings. Earthworks for the campus completion project produced unexpected findings. Excavation at 10 feet of sediments deposited about 100 years ago uncovered some glass fragments, proof that city officials deployed a fiber optics network in the DC area around the turn of the twentieth century. Excavations at 20 feet of sediments deposited about 250 years ago uncovered copper fragments, proof that the city founders had established a telephone network around 1750. Excavations at 40 feet of sediments deposited about 400 years ago did not uncover glass or copper fragments, proof that the Nacosin Indians, of Algonquin lineage, had already deployed a wireless network.
