Drop-in Sessions
Graduate Professional Development holds regular drop-in sessions at different times during the week to accommodate students’ class schedules. These sessions are designed for quick questions, follow-ups and review of previously discussed documents. Graduate Professional Development will gladly see as many students as time permits. Because these sessions can sometimes be very popular, particularly when there are student deadlines, LL.M. students are encouraged to arrive at the Office of Graduate Programs early in order to ensure that adequate time is devoted to the student's particular inquiry.
During the coming semester, the drop-in sessions will take place in the Graduate Lounge (located on the sixth floor of the Hotung building, directly opposite the Office of Graduate Programs in Room 6003) at the following times:
Mondays from 12:00 p.m.-1:00 p.m.
Tuesdays from 4:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.
Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m.
Thursdays from 4:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m.
Fridays from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m.
Special Drop-in Sessions for Part-Time LL.M. Students: For the Fall 2009 semester, we will hold special drop-in sessions for part-time LL.M. students from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. on the following dates:
- Tuesday, September 22, 2009;
- Tuesday, October 20, 2009; and
- Tuesday, November 17, 2009.
Quick Question and Answer Sessions: By popular demand, members of Graduate Professional Development will now hold Quick Question and Answer sessions for students’ quick questions every day of the week except Tuesdays. Quick Question and Answer sessions are conducted on a first-come, first-served basis in 10 minute increments. Because of those time limitations, we encourage students to attend Quick Question and Answer sessions for answers to quick questions, and to take advantage of our daily drop-in sessions for all other questions, including with regard to job search strategies and comments following our resume and cover letter review.
Students may phone in (202-662-9036) or stop by the Office of Graduate Programs during Quick Question and Answer sessions. Please check in with the Office of Graduate Programs during the following scheduled Quick Question and Answer session times in order to meet with a member of Graduate Professional Development:
- Mondays: 4:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m.
- Tuesdays: Graduate Professional Development does not hold sessions
- Wednesdays: 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
- Thursdays: 2:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m.
- Fridays: 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.; 2:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.
Please note that our daily drop-in sessions will continue to be held in the Graduate Lounge (Hotung 6003) every day of the week. For a schedule of our drop-in sessions, see the text box on the right hand side of this page.
Graduate Professional Development-Resume and Business Correspondence Review
Graduate Professional Development office has put together a manual on how to draft resumes, called the LL.M. Professional Development Manual. We also suggest using this handbook as a career planning resource during your job search process. During the academic year, we encourage you to attend our workshops and drop-in sessions on resume, cover letter and business correspondence writing.
If you are interested in reviewing templates of resumes and cover letters in order to self-critique your resume, we encourage you to use the following link: http://www.law.georgetown.edu/graduate/SampleandGuidelinesforResumesandCoverLetters.htm.
Although there is no one correct way to write a resume or cover letter, it can be useful to have someone else review these items to help ensure that they are free and clear of errors. To facilitate this process, we offer a service whereby you can submit your resume and/or cover letter electronically for review. To use the resume review service, simply send your resume and/or your cover letter, after the Add/Drop period each semester, to:
- resreviewintl@law.georgetown.edu, if you are a foreign-trained LL.M. student, or
- resreviewus@law.georgetown.edu, if you are a U.S.-trained LL.M. student
Graduate Professional Development will make every effort to reply within one week, although occasionally this is impossible due to high volume. For this reason, please send your resume and/or any other business correspondence well in advance of any deadline.
