Introduction to Counseling Appointments and Instructions
Graduate Career and Professional Development offers one-on-one counseling appointments for LL.M. students. Each of our advisers will be available during select hours each week to meet with you. During an appointment, you may ask an adviser about job search strategies, discuss comments that you have received on your resumes and cover letters, and seek advice on any other career or professional development issue.
To set up an appointment, you will need to use Acuity Scheduling, our online scheduling client. Once you arrive on Acuity's Web site, the system will ask you which type of appointment you would like to schedule. The three types of appointments are the General Counseling Appointment, the Mock Interview Appointment, and the Externship Counseling Appointment.
Select General Counseling Appointment if you have questions related to the job search process, resumes and cover letters, networking and informational interviewing, or other related topics. Once you select General Counseling Appointment, follow the on-screen prompts and provide the requested information to complete your General Counseling Appointment.
Select Mock Interview Appointment if you wish to sit down with a career advisor to for a brief, informal mock interview. An advisor will ask you some typical interview questions and provide you feedback regarding the substance of your answers, your speaking style, and your demeanor. Once you select Mock Interview Appointment, follow the on-screen prompts and provide the requested information to complete your Mock Interview Appointment.
Select Externship Counseling Appointment if you have questions related to locating or securing an externship opportunity. Graduate Career and Professional Development can advise you on what types of externships are available to you and what externships will be most beneficial for you. Once you select Externship Counseling Appointment, follow the on-screen prompts and provide the requested information to complete your Externship Counseling Appointment.
- PLEASE NOTE: For questions regarding your application with Georgetown Law to receive course credit and the procedure for getting approval of an externship , please contact Molly Jackson, the Externship Program Coordinator, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
All counseling appointments will be held in the Office of Graduate Programs Suite in Hotung 5000.
REMINDER: Regularly scheduled Drop-In Hours for the Fall Semester will begin on Tuesday, September 2, 2014.
If you have a quick issue or have been unable to schedule an appointment, you can meet with a Graduate Career and Professional Development advisor during our Drop-In Hours, which will be held every week day (Monday through Friday) from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Hotung 5000.
Please note that due to high demand, counseling sessions during Drop-In Hours will be limited to 10 minutes. If you require additional assistance, you will need to schedule an appointment with a counselor.
Counseling for Part-Time LL.M. Students
For Part-Time LL.M. students who cannot make it onto campus during business hours for an appointment or a regularly scheduled Drop-in Session, Graduate Career and Professional Development will hold evening office hours at least once a month from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on the following dates:

- October 27, 2014
- November 18, 2014
- December 18, 2014
- Spring dates will be announced by the end of January 2014
Similar to our regularly-scheduled drop-in sessions, students attending our evening hours will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis. These sessions will be held in our Graduate Lounge on the fifth floor of the Hotung Building, just outside the Office of Graduate Programs (Hotung 5008).
