Make a Counseling Appointment
Introduction to Counseling Appointments and Instructions
Graduate Career and Professional Development offers one-on-one counseling appointments for LL.M. students and alumni. Each of our advisers will be available during select hours each week to meet with you. During an appointment, you may ask an advisor about job search strategies, discuss comments that you have received on your resume or cover letter, and seek advice on any other career or professional development issue. Current students are permitted to make appointments beginning the week after Orientation.
To set up an appointment, you will need to use Acuity Scheduling, our online scheduling client. Once you arrive on Acuity's website, the system will ask you which type of appointment you would like to schedule. The five types of appointments are the Introductory Counseling Appointment, the Follow-Up Counseling Appointment, the Mock Interview Appointment, the Part-Time Student (Evening) Appointment and the LL.M. Alumni Career Counseling Appointment.
All counseling appointments will be held in the Office of Graduate Programs Suite in Hotung 5000.
- PLEASE NOTE: For questions regarding receiving course credit for and/or the procedure for getting approval of an externship, please contact Molly Jackson, the Externship Program Coordinator, at email@example.com.
Introductory Counseling Appointment. For your first visit to Graduate Career and Professional Development and if you have questions related to the job search process, resumes and cover letters, networking and informational interviewing, or other related topics.
Follow-Up Counseling Appointment. If you have previously met with a career advisor and you have questions about the job search process, resumes and cover letters, networking and informational interviewing, or other related topics that have arisen since your earlier appointment.
Mock Interview Appointment. If you wish to sit down with a career advisor for a brief mock interview. An advisor will ask you some typical interview questions and provide you feedback regarding the substance of your answers, your speaking style, and your demeanor. While you may make a Mock Interview Appointment any time, it is most useful to meet with an advisor before a scheduled interview.
Part-Time Student (Evening) Appointment. If you are a part-time LL.M. student and wish to meet with a career advisor during evening hours. Please note that these evening appointments are offered once a month and reserved for part-time LL.M. students only.
LL.M. Alumni Career Counseling Appointment. If you have graduated from the LL.M. program and looking for general job search guidance. You will have the opportunity to select an in-person or phone meeting.
Drop-In Hours for the 2017-2018 academic year will be 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Mondays through Fridays in the Office of Graduate Programs Suite in Hotung 5000. Students will be seen on a first-come, first served basis.
Please note that due to high demand, counseling during Drop-In Hours are for quick questions and not meant as a substitute for a regular counseling appointment. Students should schedule a counseling appointment for a longer discussion of their job search questions.
