Georgetown Law brings together an extraordinary faculty and diverse curriculum in the fields of national and global health law. Curricular strengths include health law and policy as well as the related fields of public health law, health care finance, food and drug regulation, international human rights, environmental law, bioethics, intellectual property, access to health care, and trade. In addition to a wide range of courses within the J.D. program, Georgetown Law offers an LL.M. degree in Global Health Law and International Institutions, in which students gain a true global perspective with a semester in Geneva, Switzerland, at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies.

The O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law at Georgetown Law supports scholarship, research, and teaching that provides a deeper understanding of how law can be used to improve health. The O’Neill Institute has a large staff and a research program organized around seven thematic areas: food and drug law, global health governance, health care, health and human rights, infectious diseases, non-communicable diseases, and trade and investment.

Georgetown Law faculty respond to urgent health issues, such as HIV prevention technologies, child vaccinations, and food safety regulations, with world-class research and scholarship, and by engaging in projects with partners including international organizations and NGOs. Students have the opportunity to work directly on the O’Neill Institute’s projects as research assistants, to enroll in its experiential learning classes, to attend its symposia and events, and to participate in an annual summer program with leading practitioners and academics focused on emerging health law and policy issues.
