How many people applied last year?
Georgetown receives the most J.D. applications out of any law school. For Fall 2016 admission, we received over 8,000 J.D. applications.
May I apply for both the Full-time and Part-time programs?
Yes. J.D. candidates may apply to be considered for the Full-time Division, Part-time Division or Both. Applying to "Both" divisions signifies to the Admissions Committee that you are equally willing to attend either the Full-time or Part-time program if offered admission to Georgetown Law. If the Admissions Committee approves your application, it will specify in your acceptance letter the division to which you have been admitted.
Is there a GPA and/or LSAT cutoff?
No. There is no minimum GPA or LSAT required for admission. Georgetown Law does not use numerical cutoffs.
Does Georgetown Law have rolling admissions?
When should I apply?
Because we have a rolling admissions system, it is to your advantage to complete your application as early as possible in the application cycle. Candidates are strongly encouraged to apply early.
When are the application deadlines?
- September 15: First day J.D. Regular and Early Decision applications accepted for Fall 2017
- November 1: Transfer/Visiting Students Deadline for Spring 2017
- March 1: Public Interest Law Scholars Deadline
- February 24: Global Law Scholars Deadline
- March 1: Strongly recommended J.D. Regular and Early Decision Deadline for Fall 2017
- March 15: Early Action Transfer Deadline for Fall 2017
- April 20: Early Assurance Deadline (Georgetown Juniors only)
- June 15: Transfer/Visiting Students Deadline for Fall 2017
Can I apply online?
Yes. It is strongly advised that applicants apply Early Decision (Binding) or Regular Decision online via the LSAC electronic application. Please be aware that LSAC needs time to process materials once received at their offices, so applicants should send their material to LSAC well in advance of application deadlines.
Do you offer fee waivers?
Georgetown Law grants need-based fee waivers on a case-by-case basis and fee waivers for active Teach For America corps members and alumni/ae, Returned Peace Corps Volunteers, Truman Scholars and military veterans and service members upon submitting the requisite supporting documents. When will I know the decision?
Early Decision: If your Early Decision application is complete with all required documentation by February 1st (see application requirements), a decision will be communicated to you within 3 weeks of completion. If your Early Decision application is submitted after February 1st, the Admissions Committee will expedite review of your application but will not guarantee a decision within three weeks of completion.
Regular Decision: Candidates will be notified as soon as decisions are reached, usually eight to twelve weeks after your file is complete with all supporting documentation. However, it depends upon the volume of applications received. If your file is complete by March 1st, every attempt will be made to send a decision by mid April.
What is the length of the personal statement?
There is no minimum or maximum length. We do not feel that an applicant's personal statement should be limited. Please send in your personal statement with your application.
