The Program
The Global Law Scholars Program (GLS) prepares students for transnational practice in which they regularly encounter problems that involve more than one legal system. The aim is to combine language skills and cultural familiarity with rigorous and directed legal training so that Scholars are ready to practice in the global legal environment of the 21st century.
Enrichment seminars provide the Scholars with a background in different legal systems and allow the students to meet and network with transnational law practitioners. The Office of Career Services helps Scholars pursue internships, clerkships, and other professional opportunities that expand their knowledge and experience.

Who May Apply
Applicants should have a demonstrated interest in transnational issues and should be proficient in a second language at the time they are applying to the program. Entering full-time first year JD students only may apply.
The Selection Process
Global Law Scholars are selected based upon prior academic record, articulated goals -- both personal and professional -- as they relate to the study of transnational law and legal practice and demonstrated proficiency in a second language. Applicants considering a career in human rights/development and/or public interest law may wish to consider applying to either the Public Interest Law Scholars Program or one of the clinics.
Application Process
Applicants to the GLS Program must fill out a separate GLS Application Form. Applicants must also provide a resume and submit the Foreign Language Evaluation Form to be completed by a professor, language instructor or, in rare cases in which language professionsals are not available, a native speaker (family members, co-workers and personal friends may not evaluate an applicant's language ability).
Applicants may submit GLS Application materials at the same time that they apply to Georgetown Law, or may send them in later, provided they do so before the deadline. GLS applications are due by March 1 (new extended deadline) . Early application is welcome. Applications received after March 1 will be considered on a space available basis. Early applications are encouraged.
GLS application materials should not be sent to the Office of Admissions.
