Transfer Admissions Information ruler

The Law Center reviews transfer applications for both Spring and Fall semester admission.  Transfer applicants, who have completed only one year at an ABA-accredited law school, are admitted to the second year class on a space available basis.  Competitive candidates are typically in the top 15% of their current law school class with an A-/B+ average.  Transfer applicants are considered for either the Full Time or Part Time Division (or both).  The Law Center will accept for transfer a maximum of 30 semester hours earned at a student's previous institution (the number of semester hours earned by our first-year day students).  Credit is not usually granted for law school courses beyond the first year.

Transfer applicants must submit all of the following materials:

  • Completed application form.  Please check the appropriate boxes on the front of the application.
  • Non-refundable $80 application fee.
  • Current law school transcript (through Summer term for Spring entry or through Spring term for Fall entry).
  • Georgetown Law JD Transfer Certification Form (click here to download form).  Note:  This form must be sent directly to Georgetown Law, not through LSDAS.
  • Recommendation from a law school faculty member.
  • Personal statement which should include the reasons for requesting the transfer.
  • All applicants must register with LSDAS.  The Law Center will not accept copies of LSDAS reports from the applicant's current law school.  Once an applicant registers with LSDAS and submits an application (either through LSAC or the Georgetown on-line system) the Admissions Office will automatically request a copy of the applicant's LSDAS report.
  • Applicants may send their letter(s) of recommendation and transcripts either through LSDAS or directly to the Georgetown Law Admissions Office.
