European Tax College Moot Court Competition

Overview

Held in the historic city of Leuven, Belgium, the European Tax College Moot Court Competition brings together some of the finest tax law scholars in Europe and the United States.  With a focus on an increasingly dynamic field of law, the competition gives participants the opportunity to gain substantial insight into some of the most important social, political and financial issues facing the European Union.   Teams must submit briefs for both petitioner and respondent, due January 15, 2009.  The oral arguments will be conducted in English, adopting the European-style of oral advocacy.  Teams are given the chance to watch arguments before the European Court of Justice and will have the opportunity to visit Brussels and Liechtenstein during the competition.  This year's team will have a student coach and will work with members of Georgetown's outstanding international and tax law faculty in preparation for the competition. The competition will be held March 1–8, 2009.

Past Results

In 2008, Sharon Doku and Daniel Hughes won Best Oral Team for the Defendant.  Sharon and Daniel also finished fifth in the overall competition (please note that they were forced to take a score deduction because they competed in English, and that point was more than the difference between them and the other semifinalists).
