Georgetown Law Webstory on Barristers' Council

Moot Court Victories

Congratulations and our highest praise to the Georgetown teams that dominated this year's Frederick Douglass Moot Court Competition National Tournament, winning BOTH First and Second place!  Sibo Mack-Williams and Roy Prather III took home this year's National Championship, with Candace Arthur and Diamond Hicks ranking as the National First Runners-Up!  This is the first time since 2001 that Georgetown has taken both of the top spots in the nation at this prestigious tournament.  Candace and Diamond were also honored with the award for the National Best Brief for the Respondent!

The teams were coached by La Toya Sutton, Marquest Meeks, and Jasmine Krishnan, all Georgetown Law graduates and Barristers' Council alums who donated their time and effort to help bring about this amazing success!

Congratulations to Daniel Kahan and Haewan Bae for reaching the quarterfinals of the Ruby R. Vale Corporate Law Moot Court competition in Wilmington, DE!  They were coached by Joe Gallagher and Colin Forbes.

Congratulations to Sharon Doku and Daniel Hughes for winning Best Oral Team for the Defendant at the European Tax College Moot Court Competition in Leuven, Belgium.  Sharon and Daniel also finished fifth in the overall competition (it’s also important to note that they were forced to take a score deduction because they competed in English, and that point was more than the difference between them and the other semifinalists!).  Geoff Rodriguez and Nick Dayton deserve special recognition for coaching and preparing this team so well.

***

Congratulations to Jeffrey Morrow and Marisa Michele Armanino for making the final round at the American Constitution Society’s Constance Baker Motley National Moot Court Tournament.  Through the preceding five rounds, Jeff & Marisa roundly beat teams from Harvard, Chicago, Rutgers, GW, and Colorado.  Also competing (and beaten by implication) were two teams from NYU and *four* from Columbia, as well as a host of other teams from around the country.  Jeff and Marisa’s success was made possible by the dedication of their amazing coach, Ben Schuman.

***

Congratulations to Shauna Prewitt, George Gilbert, and Chris McRae for finishing second out of 39 teams at the John J. Gibbons Criminal Procedure Moot Court Competition at Seton Hall University.   The team also won an award for writing the second-best Respondent’s Brief.  Special recognition goes to their fantastic coaches Jesse Weiss and Natanyah Ganz.
