Leahy is pilot testing a new Web-Based Registration Form here: Leahy Registration

In-Person Registration will still be available September 15-19, outside of the McDonough Cafeteria.

This year we will distribute the Leahy packet and collect registration fees using GULC's familiar course materials distribution system. This cost of this year's Leahy packet will be $30. Please stop by our registration table if you have any questions or if you would prefer to pay cash.

The Leahy packet will be made available starting September 19th and all students are encouraged to promptly purchase, download and review the materials promptly.

The Leahy brief will be due Monday, September 29, 2008 at noon.

Past Leahy Competition Results have been posted on the BC Announcements page

Congratulations again to 2007 Leahy Chamption David Shaw and finalists Sachin Gupta, Daniel Hughes, and Christopher Register!

The William E. Leahy Moot Court Competition is named in memory of William E. Leahy, a Law Center alumnus and an outstanding advocate.

The competition is open to Georgetown Law's LLM students and upper-class JD students. It is held in the fall semester and based on a closed packet. Participating students are assigned to either Petitioner's or Respondent's side and provided with all of the materials necessary to submit an appellate brief and argue their case. They argue both "on" and "off" brief as they advance to higher rounds.

The preliminary rounds of the Leahy Competition, which are judged by three- to five-person panels of Barristers' Council members, are scored using both the brief scores and the oral argument scores of each competitor. The final round is scored based on oral argument alone, and is judged by prominent local and federal judges.

The Leahy Competition and its first-year counterpart, the Beaudry Cup, are well-suited to students who enjoy the challenge of writing an appellate brief and prefer the conversational and deferential tone that is generally employed when answering judges' questions.

Winners have their name inscribed on the Roll of Best Advocates, which is located outside the moot court auditorium.
