Office of the Dean of Students
Mitchell Bailin, Dean of Students, oversees student life at the Law Center, including supervision of the Student Life, Residence Life & Student Programs, Wellness Promotion and Disabilities Services offices. He also provides personal and academic advising; develops and supervises co-curricular programs for J.D. students, including fall orientation, continuing orientation for 1Ls, and programs on professionalism; and coordinates the Law Center's response to urgent student matters. Prior to coming to Georgetown, Dean Bailin practiced in the litigation department at Palmer & Dodge LLP in Boston, where he focused on the representation of schools and colleges. He also served as a law clerk to the Honorable Chief Justice Margaret H. Marshall of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court. Dean Bailin held a number of positions before attending law school, including Assistant Dean of the Harvard University Summer School.
Elizabeth Ewert, Director of Academic Enhancement Programs, provides personal and academic advising; oversees the peer tutoring program; advises the Barristers' Council; and provides additional resources for academic success to students, including group and individual sessions on study skills, exam taking, legal writing, course and extracurricular activity selection, and career strategies. Prior to coming to Georgetown, Elizabeth was a partner in the Pharmaceutical Products Liability practice group at Drinker Biddle & Reath, LLP in Washington, DC and taught Legal Research and Writing at George Washington University Law School. Elizabeth attended Georgetown as an undergraduate and is delighted to be back among fellow Hoyas.
Laura Cutway, Director of Disability Services, provides academic accommodations and ensures equal access for all students with disabilities. Accommodations are provided for physical disabilities, attention disorders, learning disabilities, chronic health conditions, and psychological disabilities. Laura received her M.S. in Counseling and Human Relations and her B.A. in Psychology from Villanova University. Prior to coming to Georgetown Law, Laura worked predominantly with students with learning disabilities and attention disorders at The Catholic University of America and at Villanova University. Laura is originally from Canada but is excited to be living in and exploring DC.
Merced Ada, Special Assistant to the Dean of Students, supports the work of the ODOS team to provide programs and services that help Georgetown Law students thrive academically, personally, and professionally. She schedules advising appointments, processes Student Travel Committee applications, works with the Director of Student Life to supervise the Peer Advisor program, and manages the day-to-day business of 210 McDonough Hall, which includes, most rewardingly, working with students to answer their questions and address their concerns. Born and raised in the Northern Mariana Islands, Merced is a graduate of Georgetown University and has previously worked as a humanities program manager, higher education executive assistant, and government financial analyst.
Office of Student Life
Amy Garrison, Director of Student Life, oversees the Office of Student Life including supervision of room scheduling, student organizations, Commencement, and the Peer Advisor & Alumni Mentoring program. She also serves as advisor to the Student Bar Association. Prior to working at Georgetown, Amy was the Assistant Director of Student Engagement for Leadership and Service at the University of North Alabama where she received her M.A. in Counseling. Amy is pursuing her Doctorate of Education in Higher Education Administration from The George Washington University.
Kenrick Roberts, Coordinator of Student Organizations, advises all student organizations and student leaders, and oversees student events. He assists the Director with all major OSL events, including Commencement. Kenrick is originally from the U.S. Virgin Islands, but lived in Florida before moving to the District in 2009. Prior to Georgetown, Kenrick worked in Residence Life at The Catholic University of America. He holds a B.A. in Sociology from Saint Leo University, a M.S. in College Student Affairs from Nova Southeastern University, and is pursuing a J.D. at UDC's David A. Clarke School of Law. He loves the city and is excited to join the Hoya team!
Beverly Sapp, Scheduling Manager, supports the room scheduling functions at the Law Center. She is responsible for researching space availability, assigning spaces and ensuring that rooms are scheduled in a timely manner. She holds a B.S. in Music Education, and prior to coming to Georgetown, Beverly worked in the fields of teaching and meeting planning.
Chris Falk, Office Manager, joined the Office of Student Life in the summer of 2008. As Office Manager, he is in charge of the daily functions of the Office of Student Life. He has a B.A. in Political Science & Philosophy from Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota. For five years, Chris attended film school out Los Angeles at USC and worked in the film industry. He received his J.D. from Georgetown Law in May 2012 and is now pursuing an LL.M.
Maura Hayes, Scheduling & Administrative Assistant, is the newest member of the ODOS team, working in the Office of Student Life. Maura's main focus is to assist in researching and scheduling space for the Law Center. In addition, Maura creates a social media presence for the Office of the Dean of Students. Having received her B.A. in Media Studies from The Catholic University of America in 2011, Maura is excited to be back in Washington, DC.
Office of Residence Life and Student Programs
Chris Hall, Director of Residence Life and Student Programs, has been with Georgetown since 1999. Prior to coming to Georgetown Law, Chris worked for an educational foundation in Washington, D.C. focusing on civics and government, and for Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas. He holds a B.A. in political science and history and an M.A. in Liberal Studies. Chris is a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan so beware!
Amy Cavanaugh, Assistant Director of Residence Life and Student Programs, joined the Residence Life staff in December 2011. She has a Bachelor of Arts in English (Journalism) from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She came to the Washington, DC area upon graduation and to work in admissions at a private day school in Maryland. Amy spent two years in the Office of Admissions at Georgetown Law and also brings experience as a nanny and household manager to the Office of Residence Life.
Meada Maury, Coordinator for Off-Campus Housing, has been with Georgetown University for 18 years. She has worked in the Office of Residence Life since November of 2000. Meada has held several positions with Georgetown University and at Georgetown Hospital. Meada is also a licensed realtor in Maryland.
Bonnie Boyle, Office Manager, joined the Residence Life team in April 2013. She has a B.A. in Human Services from Gwynedd-Mercy College and is working on her Master’s in Negotiation and Conflict Management at The University of Baltimore. Prior to Georgetown, she worked for The Catholic University of America as an Area Coordinator in Residence Life, specifically working with freshmen and sophomore undergraduate students. Bonnie loves the Georgetown community and welcomes you to stop by the Gewirz Student Center to say hello!
Center for Wellness Promotion
Karen Pierce, Director of Wellness Promotion and Club Athletics, is a Certified Wellness Practitioner, Personal Trainer and Group Exercise Instructor, and has a B.S. and M.S. in physical education. Some of the events that you may associate Karen with include the Health Fair, Dean’s Challenge for fitness and wellness, the annual dodge ball tournament and summer softball league. She is also the student health insurance liaison at the law center. Karen invites you to stop by her office, located in McDonough 167.
