The Baccalaureate Mass is an optional event and is open to all Georgetown University graduates.

Instructions for Law Graduates

A. Assembly at 8:40 a.m.

Since your degrees will have already been conferred (except for Law and Med), hoods as well as caps and gowns are to be worn at Mass. The tassel on the cap is to be worn on the side of the left eye at all times. The graduates should report to the School Marshal who will be at the School Standard in Red Square, or in the case of rain, report to the McDonough tent.


B. Timetable
8:40 a.m. - Graduates line up in the Intercultural Center Courtyard/Red Square (rain site is McDonough Tent)

8:55 a.m. - Procession leaves Red Square/McDonough Tent

9:00 a.m. - Ceremony begins

C. Recessional
There will be a recessional of graduates following the Baccalaureate Mass. Follow the directions of the Chief Marshal in exiting from the seating area. Graduates and their guests may proceed to the Commencement Brunch which will immediately follow mass at the Leavey Center Grand Ballroom (tickets are not required)

In case of inclement weather, the Baccalaureate Mass will be held in McDonough Arena on Main Campus. The decision to change the site of the Mass will be made no later than 6:15 a.m. and will be announced on the University Weather Line at (202) 687-7669 and posted on the Commencement website at
