Video Conferencing Instructions

Planning a Call

Contact the Telecom Group at 202-662-9284, option 3 or telecom@law.georgetown.edu to schedule a video conference call.

Placing a Call

  1. Press the green Call-Hang Up button on the remote to access the main calling screen.
  2. From the main calling screen, use the arrow buttons on the remote to select the Video Call icon.
  3. Use the numeric keypad on the remote to enter the number you want to dial. For long distance numbers, dial 1 then the area code.
  4. Use the arrow buttons on the remote to highlight the Speed button on the screen. Change the speed of your call to ISDN/386.
  5. Press the green Call-Hang Up button again to place your call. The number and speed at which you are calling will appear at the top of the screen.
  6. The gray call progress indicators located on the lower-left of the screen indicate that your call is going through. The indicators will change from blue to yellow to orange and finally green when your call goes through.
  7. When the call completes, the party you called will appear on the screen. You will appear in the lower right-hand corner.
  8. Pan, tilt or zoom the camera by using the remote.

Note: If you call does not complete, you will receive an error message. Press the INFO button on the remote for an explanation.

Ending a Call

  1. Press the Call-Hang Up button on the remote to end your call.
  2. Select the Disconnect Video Call icon and press the Select button on the remote.
  3. A dialog will appear, asking if you want to add the phone number to the address book.
  4. Select No.
  5. The system will return to the main menu screen.
  6. Turn off the monitor.

Answering a Call

  1. You will hear the call ringing and see circles at the bottom left of the screen.
  2. Once each line is established, the system will automatically connect the call.
  3. Once connected, you can begin to talk.

Controlling the Camera Here

  1. To control the camera here, press the NEAR button on the remote.
  2. A Camera icon facing you will appear in the upper right-hand corner of the monitor.
  3. To move the camera to the right, press the Right Arrow button on the remote.
  4. To move the camera to the left, press the Left Arrow button on the remote.
  5. To tilt the camera up, press the Up Arrow button on the remote.
  6. To tilt the camera down, press the Down Arrow button on the remote.
  7. To zoom in, press the top arrow of the Zoom button on the remote.
  8. To zoom out, press the bottom arrow of the Zoom button on the remote.

Controlling the Camera There

  1. To control the camera here, press the FAR button on the remote.
  2. A Camera icon facing away will appear in the upper right-hand corner of the monitor.
  3. To move the camera to the right, press the Right Arrow button on the remote.
  4. To move the camera to the left, press the Left Arrow button on the remote.
  5. To tilt the camera up, press the Up Arrow button on the remote.
  6. To tilt the camera down, press the Down Arrow button on the remote.
  7. To zoom in, press the top arrow of the Zoom button on the remote.
  8. To zoom out, press the bottom arrow of the Zoom button on the remote

Adjusting the Sound

  1. The View Station has two volume controls, one on the monitor and the other on the remote.
  2. The monitor volume needs to be set at 3/4 of its maximum volume.
  3. This needs to be done manually, using the VOLUME button on the MONITOR.
  4. The remote volume adjusts that of the camera, which should be set at a comfortable hearing level.
  5. To adjust the camera volume, use the VOLUME buttons on the REMOTE.
  6. Press the MUTE button on the remote to enable and disable the mute function.
  7. A red light on top of the microphone will be illuminated when the mute is on. Both you and your callers will see a Mute icon in the lower left-hand corner of the monitor when the mute function is enabled.
