Career Planning for 3Ls/4Es

If you are seeking employment as a 3L or 4E, you are not alone.  Many 3L/4Es are in the process of locating and securing a post-graduate position.  Remember a job search is not a race, though it may feel like it at times.  A successful job search is highly individualized and involves assessing your personal strengths and skills, setting goals, creating effective and efficient job search strategies, and preparing powerful application materials.  We're here to help!

Start by meeting with your section advisor.  We encourage students to meet with individual counselors to create a strategy based upon their interests, strengths, and legal market conditions.

We also invite you to visit the Job Search Tools and Career Paths sections of our homepage, where you will find everything from general information on cover letters and interviewing to specific information on different career paths.  For additional information, please review Chapter 3 of the OCS Career Planning Manual, which focuses on career planning for upperclassmen.

Job Search Initiative (JSI)

JSI is a series of programming, counseling, skills development, publications and correspondence designed to help those seeking employment in their final year of law school.

Because JSI builds off of the services, resources, and programming that OCS and the Office of Public Interest and Community Service (OPICS) make available to students, there is no official registration or "event" for students.  Rather, JSI is designed to individually help students develop a comprehensive plan and framework for an employment search during their final year of law school.

To receive monthly JSI newsletters by e-mail, please add your name to the list by sending an e-mail to jobsearchinitiative@law.georgetown.edu.
