Searching for a Job in a Tough Economy
In response to these trying economic times, Georgetown University Law Center's Office of Career Services and Office of Alumni Affairs have put together some resources for alumni facing career transitions. Whether you are looking for a job, confused about how to start a search, or need simple resume and cover letter advice, these programs are designed to provide you with the skills and resources to begin your journey towards a new career in this challenging environment.
Join The Network
Would you like to hire a Georgetown lawyer? Do you want to help current students? Could you use some career advice of your own? There are almost 40,000 Georgetown Law alumni around the world working in every imaginable field – a tremendous human resource. The Georgetown Law Network (The Network, for short) will let you tap that resource. A searchable online directory that helps alumni, faculty, and current students find and communicate with each other, The Network is a great new way to connect with members of the Georgetown Law community — in your town or across the globe. The more alumni who register and become active members, the more successful and useful The Network will become. Please sign up today! You can also help other Law Alumni join The Network by spreading the word. Send them this link so they can join too: http://www.law.georgetown.edu/TheNetwork
Access to Georgetown Law Job Postings and Web Resources
Jobs postings for Georgetown Law students and alumni are available through Symplicity. The postings include many listings directed toward experienced attorneys, in both the public and private sectors. We also have a wealth of information on our web site to help guide you through the job search process and to provide you with information on many of the career paths available to you.
If you are a graduate of the Law Center, you can obtain access to restricted Law Center web resources by applying for a username and password. Please e-mail the Alumni Access Form to Andrea Waters or Sabrina James. Please note that it may take several business days to verify your alumni status. We will grant access as soon as possible.
Alumni Counseling
Are you a Georgetown University Law Center graduate who is:
- thinking about a job or career change?
- planning to move to a different part of the country or abroad?
- dealing with a merger or downsizing?
- hoping to negotiate a salary increase?
- interested in talking to a career counselor?
We invite all Law Center alumni/ae who anticipate a career change to make an appointment with Marilyn Tucker, Director of Alumni Career Services. Confidential appointments are held in the Office of Career Services for those in the Greater Washington metropolitan area, or by telephone for those outside our area. Marilyn will work with you to define your goals, develop your job search strategy, research potential employers, and find the job you want. An individual career consultation also offers you the opportunity to receive resume and cover letter critiques, find out how to develop interview strategies, and learn networking techniques.
Contact the Office of Career Services at (202) 662-9300 to schedule an appointment, then fax your resume to Marilyn Tucker at (202) 662-9313 or e-mail it to tucker@law.georgetown.edu.
We also invite you to visit the Job Search Tools and Career Paths sections of our homepage, where you will find everything from general information on cover letters and interviewing to specific information on different career paths (password may be required).

Volunteer to Help Current Students
The Office of Career Services seeks alumni volunteers to serve in a variety of capacities, including panelists at OCS programs, mock interviewers, and mentors for students interested in a particular area of practice or geographic region. If you are interested in volunteering, please send an e-mail to lar9@law.georgetown.edu, and include a short description of how you are willing to help.
