Georgetown University Law Center is located in the heart of the nation’s capital.  As an institution, our religious heritage leads us to an emphasis on jurisprudence, history, and ethics which extends beyond the traditional study of law.  With this history and in this setting, we strive to develop outstanding student lawyers who will contribute to their communities while practicing law at the highest level.

Our student body is among the most talented and diverse in the nation:

  • The undergraduate grade point averages and LSAT scores place these students in the top two percent of the entire U.S. law school applicant pool.
  • For the entering class of 2006, the median LSAT was a 169, and the median GPA was a 3.71.
  • This year’s entering class has students from 47 states and 11 foreign countries, representing 205 different colleges and universities.
  • This year, almost two-thirds (63%) of our Day students have taken some time off before coming to law school.
  • Eighty students in the full-time and part-time divisions have advanced degrees; 11 have Ph.D.’s.
  • Of the students matriculating, 45% were women and 28% were minority students.

The Law Center offers both full time (day division) and part time (evening division) programs leading to the degree of Juris Doctor. The same admission requirements and standards of performance apply in both day and evening divisions. Members of the full time faculty teach courses in both divisions accompanied by members of the adjunct faculty in certain specialized courses. While many employers choose to interview these students during their second year, we are aware that your hiring calendar may not allow for this. Please indicate on the registration form if you will consider these candidates.

Georgetown Law also offers programs of study leading toward the Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree and the Doctor of Juridical Studies (S.J.D.), as well as Certificates of Study in Employee Benefits, Estate Planning, International Human Rights Law, National Security Law and WTO Studies. Georgetown Law's selective admission process yields an entering class of highly motivated students from throughout the U.S. and from over 60 foreign countries. The students have excellent academic credentials and often have significant prior course work or experience in their primary field of study. Georgetown Law grants Master of Laws degrees in Taxation, Securities & Financial Regulation, Global Health Law, Individualized Studies, International Business & Economic Law, International Legal Studies, and Advocacy (for clinical fellows only).  In addition, there are two new programs:  the Joint J.D./LL.M.  in Taxation, and the Two-Year LL.M. Program for foreign-educated lawyers with strong records of academic achievement and professional experience.  This small, highly selective program is designed for students with outstanding credentials who might not otherwise be eligible for a U.S. LL.M. program because they have not yet achieved the required level of proficiency in English.
