We have updated state court clerkship vacancy information available online for all State Supreme Courts, as well as trial level courts in DC, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey - the information is available online at http://www.law.georgetown.edu/career/clerkships/resources.cfm under “Clerkship Vacancies.” Clicking on a court’s link will provide not only a list of which judges are hiring, but also the required application materials. Mailing information for these judges can be found on Symplicity under the Clerkships tab.
The West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals is seeking applicants for 5 clerkship positions – including 2 two start immediately. Successful applicants will have at least a 2.2 GPA, be able to pass a criminal background check, and be willing to take the West Virginia bar if offered the position. The position has a rolling deadline, but students are encouraged to apply sooner rather than later. Applying to recently confirmed judges is a great opportunity for many students. The applicant pool is smaller, the judge may be hiring off-schedule, and there is the unique opportunity to see what a judge’s first year on the bench (or at least on this particular bench) is like. However, the application process itself is a bit more confusing than regular, since recently confirmed judges are often not on OSCAR. This Clerkship FAQ is designed to make it easier for students to understand how to effectively apply to recently confirmed judges.
