On Tuesday, April 9 from 5 – 7 in G12 we are hosting the first annual Government Preview Reception,
an opportunity for current 1Ls to meet with government representatives
to discuss academic year and summer 2014 hiring programs. Each of the
participating agencies is interested in meeting with potential
candidates to exchange information and offer guidance before the
recruiting season officially begins.
Here’s a sneak preview of one of the participating agencies, that
actually uses their summer program as a feeder into post-grad
employment! Take a look:
The United States Government Accountability Office is an independent,
non-partisan agency in the legislative branch. As the “government’s
watchdog,” GAO researches and investigates policy issues touching upon
all aspects of the work of the federal government in order to assist
Congress in carrying out its core Constitutional
responsibilities—investigation of all areas in which Congress may
legislate, evaluation of the use of taxpayer dollars, and oversight of
the government’s programs and activities. GAO’s Legal Honors Program is
designed to attract, develop, and retain the highest caliber of new
attorneys. Annually, 5-10 Summer Associates are hired into the program
with the possibility of permanent hire once they have completed the
summer program successfully. We are looking for candidates that can
demonstrate superior law school performance; participation in
extracurricular activities in law school, especially law journals;
membership in law student organizations and other self-initiated
activities; and a demonstrated interest in public service.
