US Postal Service Honor Attorney Program - application deadline. 1/7/13

The US Postal Service, Office of General Counsel seeks 3Ls and Recent Grads (2011 or later) for its paid ($75,000), 3-year Honors Attorney Program in Washington DC and other U.S. locations. The program usually concludes in a permanent position.  Attorneys provide representation and advice to Postal Service officials involving the interpretation of statues, regulations, contracts, and precedents; or the presentation of cases before administrative bodies in a general area of law.  Responsibilities include conducting legal research; and preparing written materials, opinions, memoranda, decisions, regulations, testimony, or formal filings in proceedings. 

Application deadline is Monday, January 7.

U.S. Air Force Judge Advocate General's Corps Summer Internship Program

The United States Air Force Judge Advocate General’s Corps is now hiring 1Ls and 2Ls for its nationwide paid summer internship program. You must be a U.S. citizen and in your first or second year at an ABA-approved law school to apply.  Applications are available on-line through 27 December 2012.

Announcing the 2013 GU/GW Public Sector Recruiting Program (PSRP)

Information on participating employers is now available on the PSRP instance of Symplicity. (Please note: it is not the same url as the Symplicity website that houses other GU Law recruiting programs.)

The Public Sector Recruiting Program is a day-long job fair for Georgetown and George Washington law students to interview for summer 2013 internships and a limited number of permanent positions with non-profit organizations, government agencies and public interest law firms. Approximately 200 employers participated in 2012.

The Program consists of scheduled interviews, table talk (informal information exchange) and a resume collection option for employers that cannot interview at GW. The program is “pre-screened,” which means that employers pre-select the students they wish to interview.

Interviews and Table Talk will take place on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at the GWU Marvin Center.

Students are required to upload employer specific cover letters (in addition to resumes). Public sector employers prefer cover letters as part of students’ applications.

The deadline to upload application materials for the Interview Option is 12:00 pm on Monday, January 7, 2013.
Pleae note:  the new deadline to upload application materials for the Resume Collection Option is 5:00 pm on Wednesday, January 9, 2013.

Hot Job! Securities & Exchange Commission 1L Summer Honors Program

The Securities and Exchange Commission is now accepting applications for its 1L Summer Honors program for Summer 2013. 

Jobs are available in Washington DC and 10 regional offices.  We have high expectations for our interns, often assigning them the same work we would give a newly-hired staff attorney who had completed law school. Students assist with tasks such as drafting regulations, reviewing filings, or preparing for interviews and testimony. They spend hours every day with line attorneys, and they support senior executives.
The Summer Honors program is highly-competitive.  We hire as few as 10% of the students who apply, and we limit the size of the program so that students receive substantive work.  But we encourage applications from a range of students, including those with an interest or experience in securities, compliance, financial regulation, investigations and law enforcement.  Most first-year legal interns from past programs have gone on to work their second summer at law firms.  Many pursue jobs that relate to securities, finance or related industries, but others have pursued other specialties while still using the skills that they learned at the SEC.

The HHS Office of the General Counsel (“OGC”), Public Health Division, NIH Branch is now welcoming applications from summer intern candidates.  To ensure consideration, all applications must be received by January 31, 2012.
 
The chosen intern will gain invaluable exposure to public health issues from the perspective of the Federal government. Specifically, the summer intern will assist attorneys in the NIH Branch with a variety of legal matters that they routinely handle for the 27 institutes and centers of the NIH. Some of these issues may involve grants, contracts, administrative procedure, privacy, animal welfare, NIH relationships with third parties, intellectual property, and technology transfer.
