DC Public Charter School Board’s Legal Internship Program is seeking rising 2Ls and 3Ls interested in learning more about DC charter schools and committed to the mission of providing quality public school options for DC students, families, and communities. Through their work with PCSB, interns will learn about the DC public education system, the challenges it faces, and the charter school sector. Additionally, interns will be exposed to broader education reform issues at a national level. Learn more about PCSB by visiting www.dcpcsb.org.
The legal interns’ primary project will be to assist the PCSB Charter Agreement Team in drafting reports for schools undergoing charter review. Specifically, interns will be tasked with:
- Ensuring that reviews are completed in adherence with the DC School Reform Act;
- Reviewing schools’ history, academic performance, and legal compliance and drafting findings; and
- As needed, researching discrete legal issues that arise in the course of these reviews.
Additionally, legal interns will assist in drafting amendments to schools’ charters and strengthening PCSB’s review, renewal, and application guidelines and policies.
Legal intern applicants should have an interest in and commitment to improving public education; strong writing and analytic skills; attention to detail; and the ability to solve problems and juggle a variety of tasks in a fast-paced environment. Adaptability, initiative, and a desire to reflect and receive constructive feedback to develop skills are essential.
