OCS would like to welcome Gary McGinnis as our newest counselor! Gary joins the Office of Career Services after nearly three years as a career adviser at the University of Michigan Law School. Prior to his work in career planning, Gary worked as an associate in the Insurance and Financial Services Litigation Group in Sidley Austin LLP's Chicago office, where his practice centered on reinsurance arbitration and class action defense. He earned his J.D. at the University of Virginia School of Law in 2009, where he served on the editorial board of the Virginia Sports and Entertainment Law Journal, and his B.A., magna cum laude, in political science and French from Albion College in 2006. Gary will serve as the OCS counselor for Section 1 and will be available for appointments beginning June 2.
On Friday April 25, 2014, David Sanders, a partner at Foley & Lardner LLP and a Georgetown Law alumnus, will be giving a presentation on how to succeed in private practice. If you are planning on working in the private sector after graduation, this program will be a great resource for you on how to navigate the practice of law as you are beginning your career. Mr. Sanders brings with him years of experience working in a large law firm, and he has devoted a significant amount of time to recruiting and young attorney professional development at Foley. Mr. Sanders’ presentation will take place in McDonough 156 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 25, 2014. If you would like to attend this event, you can RSVP at http://apps.law.georgetown.edu/forms/?formid=968.
Congratulations to Michelle Poncetta, who won the OCS/OPICS raffle after completing our Programming Survey! Michelle has won a $50 gift card to Amazon.
Thank you to everyone who participated in the Programming Survey; we really appreciate your feedback and will take your comments into consideration as we plan our programming going forward. If you have not yet completed the survey but would like to do so, we continue to welcome your responses. Please click on the headline above for the survey link.
OCS and OPICS are already planning next year's programs, and we would like some input from you! We have put together a VERY SHORT survey about what type of programming you would like to see from our offices, when you would like to see it, and how you like to receive your information from us, and would appreciate if you could take just a few minutes to fill it out. As an added incentive, one lucky survey respondent will win a $50 Amazon gift card! Please click on the headline above for the survey link.
Many of the regular OCS and OPICS counselors, as well as some of the staff, will be attending the annual NALP Conference from Tuesday, April 8th through Friday, April 11th. The NALP conference is an excellent opportunity for our offices to meet with both private and public employer representatives from across the country on your behalf.
Please note that the OCS and OPICS offices will still be open Monday through Friday, 9am-5pm next week. Counselors will be checking their emails and voicemails periodically during this time. If you have an emergency situation please stop by the front desk of either of our offices and you will be connected with a counselor as soon as possible.
