The American Immigration Lawyers Association DC Chapter, the DC Volunteer Lawyers Project, and the Hispanic Bar Association of the District of Columbia are co-sponsoring an Immigration Career Panel. Area students are invited.
Representing Unaccompanied Immigrant Children and Women Fleeing Gender Based Violence
This panel will explore the unique challenges faced by unaccompanied immigrant children, and immigrant women and girls fleeing gender based violence, seeking immigration relief in the US. Speakers from KIND (Kids In Need of Defense) and the Tahirih Justice Center will describe the path that led them to their public interest careers, fascinating cases their organizations have handled, the legal outlook in their fields, and pro bono opportunities for attorneys. Panelists include Wendy Young, Executive Director at KIND, Jeanne Smoot, Director of Public Policy at Tahirih, and Natalie Nanasi, Senior Immigration Staff Attorney at Tahirih (and Georgetown grad).
