Important Information for Students Selected for a DOJ Honors Program Interview

As noted in the DOJ interview notification email, all selected candidates must submit a travel survey within 3 business days of receiving notification from DOJ.  If you do not have a personal fax machine, please indicate the OPICS fax number on your survey – (202) 662-9656.

Please note:  OPICS cannot notify individual students that their fax has been received, so if you are waiting for your interview notification, please stop by 212 to check if your fax has been sent.

Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld and Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe have confirmed that the two firms are in the early stages of merger talks. While that certainly doesn’t mean a combination is a sure thing, it does raise the question of what a union of the two firms would look like.

The Office seeks approximately 100 1Ls and 2Ls for its volunteer Summer 2011 Law Student Internship Program. Interns may work with the Civil Law Division (Business and Tax; Correctional Law; Employment, Regulation and Administration; Government Law; Health Quality Enforcement; Health Education and Welfare; Licensing; and Tort and Condemnation), Criminal Law Division (Appeals, Writs and Trials; Medi-Cal Fraud and Elder Abuse), Public Rights Division (Antitrust; Charitable Trusts; Civil Rights Enforcement; Consumer Law; Energy Task Force; Environment; False Claims; Indian and Gaming; Land Law; Natural Resources; and Tobacco Litigation) or Executive Programs.  Students may be placed in 1 of 6 offices located in Sacramento, San Francisco, Oakland, Fresno, Los Angeles, and San Diego.  General duties include legal research, writing briefs and attending hearings.  Each intern will be supervised by a Deputy Attorney General.

DC Bar Environmental and Energy Law Career Panel - 10/6

The DC Bar invites all interested students to attend an environmental law career panel on Wednesday, October 6 from 5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. at which attorneys from two federal agencies, an environmental NGO, and an independent authority of the District of Columbia will speak about their career paths.   Panelists will also field questions on internships and job opportunities, how to prepare for a position with their employer, and pitfalls to avoid in the job search process.  Light refreshments will be provided.
