International Internship Program - 2 Additional Public Sector Employers

Though bidding for the International Internship Program has closed, there are two additional public sector employers accepting applications:

Advice on Individual Rights in Europe (AIRE) Center (London, UK) and Conectas Human Rights (Sao Paulo, Brazil).

Check the Symplicity homepage for more information; the deadline is 2/3.

Please note that the offer and acceptance process for these two employers will be governed by the same procedures that apply to IIP, including the 72 hour turnaround time for students to accept or decline offers.

DC Women's Bar Association Wine Tasting Fundraiser and Networking Event

The Women's Bar Association Foundation invites Georgetown students to attend a fundraiser and networking event -- Breaking the Grape Ceiling: Celebrating Women in Wine

On February 3, 2011, the Women’s Bar Association Foundation will hold its Annual Wine Tasting and Silent Auction between 6:30 – 8:30 pm at the offices of WilmerHale, the proceeds of which go to the Founder’s Fellowship—which will be awarded to a Georgetown Law student this year.  Students are invited to attend this event (student admission is $45), which will enable you to meet many leading member of the bar, practicing both in the public and private sectors. The Founder's Fellowship will provide a stipend of $7,500 for a Georgetown Law student to work with a local legal services provider on projects to benefit women and children in our community.  More information on the fellowship will be announced soon. 

International Internship Program 2011: OCS is Accepting Additional Bids for 5 Private Sector Employers!

OCS is accepting additional bids for some employers in the International Internship Program. If you previously applied for an international internship, you ARE still eligible to submit your resume - this does NOT count towards your initial 15 bid maximum! Bidding begins on Symplicity today, Wednesday, January 26th and will end at 12PM Friday, January 28th. We are currently seeking resumes from students interested in the following internship opportunities for Summer 2011:

Opportunities to Get Involved with the ABA Law Student Division

Each year, the Law Student Division Chair appoints law student liaisons to ABA sections, divisions, forum committees, and other entities throughout the ABA. National Student Directors and Project Directors, also appointed by the Division Chair, work with the Division to coordinate and administer their respective programs. Liaisons, National Student Directors and Project Directors are appointed for a one-year term. The deadline for submitting your application form for an ABA Law Student Division Liaison, National Student Director or Project Director position is February 15.

Spring 2011 - Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless Lane Evans Home Court Fellowship

Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless - Lane Evans Home Court Fellows

Every spring up to 8 Georgetown Law students are selected to serve as Lane Evans Home Court Fellows who do a variety of projects for the staff attorneys at the Clinic including research, policy briefings, assisting attorneys at legal clinics, and know-your-rights presentations at area shelters. 

The commitment is approximately 5 hours a week from March through April (about 30 hours total) and the time volunteered counts towards the Pro Bono Pledge as law-related pro bono. Open to students from all JD classes.  Applications are due by Friday, January 28th.  Interviews will be conducted during the week of January 31st, with decisions posted on Friday, February 4th.

Georgetown Law-Asia Lecture - Wed., January 26th at 3:30pm

Interested in Chinese legal studies and comparative criminal law? Join Georgetown Law-Asia for the Ford Foundation Representative Lecture featuring Ira Belkin on Wednesday, January 26th from 3:30-5:30pm in McDonough 164. Mr. Belkin is the Program Officer for the Ford Foundation’s China office. He works on law and rights issues from the foundation's Beijing office. Before coming to the foundation, Mr. Belkin combined a career as an American lawyer and federal prosecutor, and spent seven years working to promote the rule of law in China.
