The Staff Attorneys represent human trafficking and domestic violence survivors in their immigration applications and family law issues. Additionally, the legal intern will provide direct immigration legal services to immigrant youth.  Term is May 2011 until as needed

OCS Office Hours

As we approach exams, we want to let you know that our office will be open throughout the exam period and counselors will be available on an ongoing basis for appointments.  Our office hours will be Monday through Friday from 9am-5pm this week going forward, but if you need to see your counselor outside of these hours, please contact him or her regarding availability.  Formal walk-in hours will be suspended from now through the summer; however, if you have a “walk-in” question, feel free to call or stop by the office and the next available counselor will assist you.  Three of our section advisors are attending an annual professional conference this week, but will be checking e-mail and voicemail regularly while away, and will be glad to answer your questions or direct you to someone who can.

Check out this link from the National Law Journal (NLJ) for a map of 21 U.S. cities with the highest number of lawyers, plus, a global view of the NLJ 250 firms' international offices.

With over 21,000 lawyers, New York retains its seat as the lawyer capital of the United States. New York has 65% more NLJ 250 attorneys than Washington, D.C., which has the second-highest total.

If you have considered opening your own firm after graduation or at some point later in your career, you won’t want to miss this presentation by Carolyn Elefant, author of www.myshingle.com, on Monday, April 25 at 3:30 p.m. in McDonough 588. MyShingle.com is a blog aimed at attorneys who are solo practitioners or who work at small firms. Carolyn started her own firm in 1993 and has continued practicing while also actively blogging and writing. In 2008, she published her book, “Solo by Choice: How to Be the Lawyer You Always Wanted to Be” and is an active speaker at conferences and law firm events on solo practice, social media and small firm practice trends. This will be a great opportunity to learn first-hand of the considerations to weigh before starting your own practice. Light refreshments will be served.

“Paul Brigner (LAW '05, MBA '11) hasn't been to class in a while, but it is not because he has been watching movies. Instead, he has been managing the film industry.  Brigner flew to Los Angeles on Tuesday to embark on his new role. He was appointed as senior vice president and chief technology officer for the Motion Picture Association of America on Jan. 10, according to Variety.”
