The Federal Bar Association Section on Taxation and the Georgetown University Law Center present a Careers in Tax Law Luncheon Program on Thursday, July 28, 2011 from 12:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. in Hotung 1000.  This program is for summer associates, law clerks, law students, and young lawyers who may be considering a career in tax law.  Panelists will discuss their own career paths, provide advice, and give their perspective on the practice of federal tax law.  Panelists include:

Clerkship Update – Recent Senate Confirmations

The U.S. Senate has recently confirmed the following five federal judges, including the first openly gay man appointed to the federal bench, J. Paul Oetken, the first woman to serve on the federal bench in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Wilma A. Lewis, and the first Hispanic woman to serve on the U.S. District Court in New Jersey, Esther Salas.  Students interested in applying should contact OCS.

Three Staff Attorney Fellowships on PSLawNet for 2012 grads

In addition to Project Fellowships, PSLawNet advertises Public Interest Staff Attorney Fellowships with organizations throughout the country on an ongoing basis throughout the year.  Staff attorney fellowships differ from project fellowships (Skadden, Equal Justice Works Fellowship, etc) because the fellowship is a defined position within the organization.  The candidate does not have to develop a new project.   To access current fellowship listings, go to www.pslawnet.org and sign in as a continuing or new user. Select "opportunities search" and "legal fellowships."

DOJ Career Fair Notification

We received this email from The Department of Justice regarding the upcoming Career Fair:

Thank you very much for circulating our announcement to your students about the DOJ Career Information Fair scheduled for Tuesday, July 26, 2011.  We received an overwhelming response, but we were only able to confirm a total of 100 students from law schools in the metropolitan area.  We have identified those students who will be permitted to attend and we have notified them by email.  If you would please  notify all your students that if they have not yet heard from the Department about the Career Information Fair, unfortunately they will not be able to attend.  Thank you very much.

Please note:  We are in the process of scheduling a Georgetown DOJ Info Session on Wednesday, August 31.  More details coming soon!
