Clerkship Surveys - Let us Know about your Interviews and Offers!

As you receive judicial clerkship interviews and offers, please remember to fill out the following forms, so that OCS can keep their statistics up to date and better serve you and your peers in the future.

• Interview Notification Form – Fill out this form when you receive an interview offer.  If you have received an offer to interview, but have declined that offer, we still want to know – just indicate “declined” in the interview date cell.  This form is available online here.
• Clerkship Interview Survey – These forms are anonymous and are used by future interviewees to learn about any quirks or techniques they should be prepared for when interviewing with the same Judge.  If you would like to learn more about how your Judge interviews, these forms are located in the OCS office next to the Hearsay binders.  This form is available online here.
• Clerkship Offer Survey – If you have been offered a clerkship (congratulations!), please fill out this form to let us know of your success, and to indicate your willingness to speak with future Georgetown students about clerking.  This form is available online here.

Spring Recruitment Program – Bidding NOW open!

Bidding for the Spring 2012 Recruitment Program is now open!  The Spring Recruitment Program provides opportunities for students to interview on-campus with small and medium sized firms.  The interview program will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2012 at Georgetown Law in Gewirz building on the 12th Floor.  For more information, see below:

1L Search Before the Search – 1L Choices – TODAY at 3:30pm in Hart Auditorium

Please join us for “1L Choices,” part of the Search Before the Search career development series, TODAY, Monday, January 23 at 3:30pm in Hart Auditorium.

Many of you have been talking with the career and academic advisors about how to decide which extracurricular, curricular and employment opportunities you should pursue during the next year.  The options are numerous:  law journals, Barristers’ Council, research assistantships, Law Fellowships, paid internships, study abroad, externships for credit, and many, many more. 

You obviously can’t and wouldn’t want to participate in all of these.  Some of these opportunities will help further your academic and professional goals, others may not, and the benefits of a particular activity or class are not the same for every student.   

The 1L Choices session is designed to introduce you very briefly to the major opportunities available and the calendar of deadlines to participate in them.  The panelists also will suggest a framework for deciding which opportunities best align with your goals and values and for communicating to prospective employers how you made those decisions.

New 2012 Federal Clerkships on OSCAR

The following federal judges have recently posted 2012 clerkship positions on OSCAR:

• Judge Kristen Mix, US District Court in Denver, CO, is accepting applications through January 31, 2012 for a 1-year clerkship to start May 15, 2012.
• Judge Lawrence Hagel, US Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims in Washington, DC, is accepting applications through February 29, 2012 for a 2-year clerkship to begin September 1, 2012.
• Judge Joan Lefkow, US District Court in Chicago, IL, is accepting applications through March 2, 2012 for a 1-year clerkship to start September 4, 2012.
• Judge Kenneth Neiman, US District Court in Springfield, MA, is accepting applications through February 20, 2012 for a 1-year clerkship to start August 20, 2012.
• Judge Robert Johnston, US District Court in Las Vegas, NV, is accepting applications through February 3, 2012 for a 1-year clerkship to start August 6, 2012.
• Judge Sara Lioi, US District Court in Akron, OH, is accepting applications through March 20, 2012 for a 1-year clerkship to start August 20, 2012.

Akin Gump 2012 Pro Bono Scholars Program for 1L/2Es

Started in 2008, the Akin Gump Summer Pro Bono Scholars Program is a two-summer program for top law students who show a strong interest in making pro bono an integral part of their Akin Gump careers. The Pro Bono Scholars are rising second-year law students who work both at the firm and at a public interest organization during the summer. The next (rising third year) summer, the Pro Bono Scholars are members of the firm’s regular summer associate program.

In 2012, the Pro Bono Scholars Program will be expanding from the Dallas, New York and Washington offices to include the Houston and Los Angeles offices.

The firm will accept applications between January 23, 2012 and February 15, 2012. The application should include a resume, transcript (uncertified is acceptable) and writing sample. In addition, each candidate is required to submit a short statement (no more than 500 words) describing his or her interest in having a career at Akin Gump and making pro bono a part of his or her practice.
