Winter Break Volunteer Opportunity for Law Students in NY

Legal Services NYC seeks law student volunteers to conduct a community needs assessment in Sandy-impacted New York neighborhoods. Our goal: Reach 5,000 New Yorkers over three weeks in January 2013. Student canvassers will be trained to assess for immediate legal needs and to provide resources and referrals. LSNYC and our community partners will use the survey results to advocate for a broad spectrum of expanded resources, law and policy reforms. Hot job for Spring: DC Legal Aid Society, Housing Unit

DC Legal Aid Society is currently is recruiting for a Spring 2013 law student intern to work specifically in our Housing Law Unit.   Law student interns assist our housing attorneys in representing clients in proceedings in D.C. Superior Court.  Interns have the opportunity to interact with clients and may attend client meetings.  Interns also have significant opportunities to observe court proceedings in the D.C. Superior Court Landlord and Tenant Branch.   Assignments include legal research and writing, as well as factual investigation.  Interns also participate in internal meetings and are responsible for some administrative duties.

Candidates must have a demonstrated interest in housing law and a passionate commitment to working with underserved individuals and communities.  Spring term interns are expected to work a minimum of 12 hours per week throughout the semester.
