FAQ: Is It Ever Possible To Ask For An Extension On An Offer?
According to the NALP guidelines, employers offering positions for the
following summer to candidates not previously employed by them should
leave those offers open for at least 28 days following the date of the
offer letter or until December 30, whichever comes first. Additionally,
the guidelines state that candidates may request an extension of the
deadline until as late as April 1 if the student is actively pursuing
government or public sector opportunities. The majority of law firm
employers abide by these guidelines.
But what if you are approaching the 28th day following the date of your
offer letter and you are still waiting to hear back from other private
sector employers? Click on the headline above for more information.
