Announcing the 2013 Cabrini Center for Immigrant Legal Assistance Immigration/Detention Law Fellowship for Georgetown Law ’13 JD Graduates
The Fellowship is a two-year, post-graduate position sponsored by Georgetown Law and Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Galveston-Houston. The Fellow will represent noncitizen adults and children seeking political asylum and other relief in Immigration Court removal proceedings. The Fellowship is an excellent opportunity to develop hands-on litigation skills and build contacts within immigration reform and civil rights communities on the local and national levels, while serving low-income immigrants with compelling needs. The Fellow will be an employee of the Cabrini Center for Immigrant Legal Assistance at Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Galveston-Houston in Houston, TX. The fellowship is open to Georgetown JD students graduating in 2013.
Terms and salary: The Fellowship will begin in September 2013 and continue through August 2015. The Fellow will be paid an entry-level Catholic Charities staff attorney salary, approximately $40,000 per year, and receive full benefits, including health care, vacation, and the opportunity to attend local and national trainings. The fellow is also eligible for Georgetown’s Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP).
Selection criteria: Candidates should possess a good academic record and be independent self-starters with a commitment to immigrants’ rights. Experience in immigration law is preferred, proficiency in Spanish is required. The ideal candidate would be capable of contributing to the Catholic Charities’ social justice mission. During the period of the Fellowship, the Fellow must supply his or her own car, and maintain a current driver's license, registration, and car insurance.
