House of Ruth Seeks Volunteer Legal Advocates
The House of Ruth Maryland is one of the nation's leading intimate partner violence centers, helping thousands of battered women and their children find safety and security.
Position: The House of Ruth seeks volunteer legal advocates to work at various MD legal offices, including in Upper Marlboro, Baltimore City, Hyattsville and Montgomery County. Volunteers will have the following job responsibilities:
- Participate in client intake interviews in person or by telephone
- Provide legal information and referrals to victims of domestic violence
- Accompany staff attorneys to court to inform potential clients of House of Ruth services
- Accompany a domestic violence client to criminal or civil proceedings involving or related to domestic violence
Time commitment & training requirements: 8 hours/week (weekdays ONLY; at least two 4-hour shifts; shifts can be arranged between 8:30am and 4:30pm). Must be able to attend training at Baltimore administrative offices.
