Community Service Opportunities
Georgetown offers many opportunities to get involved in non-legal volunteer work that benefits the D.C. community. One of the advantages of living in DC is that there are many opportunities for you to organize your own community service. Organizations throughout D.C. welcome student volunteers who want to help out in the community during the year. (Georgetown has a long tradition of working with several in particular—you can read about them under local partners.) Several student groups organize community service projects, and some journals and classes require community service commitments.* There are also several recurring community service projects organized by OPICS or the Law Center during Student Orientation or during various holidays. These pages will give you a bunch of good places to start, but remember: if there's work you'd like to do and you can't find an organization here, you can always look around D.C. or start one yourself!
*Community Service performed to satisfy journal or class requirements may not be counted toward the Pro Bono Pledge. (See the Pro Bono Pledge Requirements for more information.)
