Georgetown Law Open on Time
The Law Center will open on time, Tuesday, January 27, 2015, but liberal leave is in effect.
All designated emergency employees must report to work on time. All other employees may take unscheduled leave, but should contact their supervisor to discuss the needs of their unit and individual circumstances. Classes will begin at their normal time, unless otherwise noted on the class cancellation line: 202-662-9446 or the class cancellation page. Any changes to this announcement will be communicated through the same channels by 5:00 am on Tuesday morning.
Holiday Volunteer Opportunities
The holidays are a wonderful time to embrace the spirit of service and spread some holiday cheer! The DC area abounds with holiday volunteer and service opportunities, and we encourage you to reach out to organizations directly to get involved. Please note that the organizations listed below represent just a few of the many holiday volunteer opportunities available in the DC area, and many of these organizations solicit volunteer help year-round!
The Holiday Project: organizes visits to hospitals and other institutions for a variety of holidays.
Capital Area Food Bank: hosts a number of holiday-centered events including food drives and various sporting events (basketball games, Zumba, etc.) to raise money for the organization.
Toys for Tots – Anacostia Chapter: is looking for donations of toys and volunteers to help collect and distribute the toys during the holidays.
Washington DC Jewish Community Center: offers volunteer opportunities on both a consistent basis and on certain holiday dates (Thanksgiving, Christmas, MLK Day, “Good Deeds Day”).
Jewish Social Service Association: collects gifts to be distributed during the holiday season (November and December usually).
D.C. Central Kitchen: is always looking for volunteers to help with meal preparation and street outreach. Volunteers can sign up individually or as a group.
Dreams for Kids: hosts an annual Holiday for Hope celebration, providing 800 homeless and underprivileged children and their family members with entertainment, a holiday feast, and gifts. This year’s event is scheduled for December 15th. You can sign up to volunteer using this link.
The Jubilee Support Alliance: organizes the Holiday Program, an annual program in December that provides residents of Jubilee Housing with gifts that brighten their holiday season and help with their day-to-day lives.
