Data Privacy in the United States and European Union

    This course compares the U.S. and European approaches to data privacy, and in particular privacy enforcement. The course provides an overview of US and European data privacy law, and focuses on various current topics, such as privacy and the Internet; the application of existing laws to new ways to collect and retain data; identity theft and data security; credit laws; privacy in the marketplace; spam; cross-border data transfers; and international cooperation. The course will require a paper.
