Graduate Independent Research (GIR) registration is not possible on-line. To register, students must fill out the GIR application form obtained on-line or from the Office of the Registrar, obtain the required professor's signature and submit the completed application to the Office of Graduate Programs no later than the first day of class of each semester. Exceptions or waivers to these dates will only be granted in unusual circumstances or for good cause. Please note that the approval of a completed GIR application will not be automatic. Students must demonstrate that they have a well developed topic that will lend itself to a substantial scholarly paper. Students are limited to one GIR during their LL.M. degree program. A GIR can not be used to expand on a paper written for a prior course.

IN ADDITION, GIR TOPICS WILL ONLY BE APPROVED IF THEY ARE UNAVAILABLE AS A CLASS OPTION IN THE GRADUATE PROGRAM. Students are limited to one GIR during their LL.M. degree program. A GIR can not be used to expand on a paper written for a prior course.
