Specifically, the course will provide an overview of the applicable regulatory schemes, particularly those established by the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, as well as banking authorities. The course will also examine a number of instruments and products and the regulatory conflicts and problems raised by their development, offer, and sale by financial institutions. Finally, the course will review the ongoing debates over federal regulatory policies toward derivatives.
