Professor Benton is an attorney-advisor in the Division of Corporation Finance of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, where his work focuses on securities law regulatory issues under the Securities Act of 1933 and the Securities Exchange Act of 1934. He previously served as a C.V. Starr Lecturer at the Peking University School of Transnational Law in Shenzhen, China, where he taught instructed first-year students on transnational law, legal research and writing, and the common-law legal method, and instructed second-year students on deal documentation, transactions, and contract drafting. His note "From Socialist Ethics to Legal Ethics: Legal Ethics, Professional Conduct, and the Chinese Legal System" was published in the UCLA Pacific Basin Law Journal. He has been a member of the Georgetown Law adjunct faculty since 2015.
