Gender and Legal History Seminar Project: My colleage, Wendy Williams, and I have taught a seminar in Gender and American Legal History for well over two decades. We have hundreds of student papers on file. Many of our students have given us permission to make their work available to other scholars in the field. A website has been set up to facilitate distribution of the papers. To review instructions on how to get a paper, as well as to peruse author and subject indices, use the link to the left. If you have questions, email me. Javins Project: In 2004 I published a lengthy history of the famous landlord-tenant case, Javins v. First National Realty Corporation. The case firmly established the implied warranty of habitability as a fixture of American property law. While researching the article, Georgetown Law provided funding to help gather documents from all of the courts involved in the dispute—the District of Columbia Court of General Sessions, the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia and the Supreme Court of the United States. Grading Spreadsheet: Georgetown Law asks its faculty to use a set grading curve for large classes unless there are good reasons to deviate from the norm. The link to the left will take you to a page describing and allowing you to download an Excel spreadsheet template that will calculate grades after the entry of raw scores.
