Alan Devlin is a counsel at Latham & Watkins (admitted to practice in California only). He joined the firm in August 2017 after two years at the Federal Trade Commission, where he was Acting Deputy Director of the FTC's Bureau of Competition and, previously, Attorney Advisor to Acting FTC Chairman Maureen K. Ohlhausen. He has also served as a law clerk to the (late) Hon. Richard D. Cudahy of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and to the Hon. Amy J. St. Eve of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

Professor Devlin is the author of two books, Antitrust and Patent Law (Oxford 2016) and Fundamental Principles of Law and Economics (Routledge 2014), and over thirty law-review articles. His writings appear in the Stanford Law Review, the Northwestern University Law Review, the Minnesota Law Review, the William & Mary Law Review, the Harvard Journal of Law & Technology, the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy, and elsewhere.

Professor Devlin received his doctorate in jurisprudence (J.S.D.) from the University of Chicago under the supervision of the Hon. Richard A. Posner. He also holds a J.D. from Stanford Law School, where he was Articles Editor for the Stanford Law Review, and a first-class-honors degree in business and law from University College Dublin.
