Continue ReadingB.A., Brigham Young University; J.D., University of Virginia. Professor Evans serves as an Attorney Advisor for the U.S. Department of Treasury's Office of Benefits Tax Council. Prior to that he worked at Groom Law Group after working for five years as a litigation and employee benefits attorney in Charlotte, North Carolina. He specializes in Title II of ERISA, working on a wide range of employee benefit plan issues. Professor Evans has extensive experience in drafting and reviewing the operation of qualified defined contribution and defined benefit retirement plans, including cash balance plans. He has also assisted many clients in addressing qualified plan issues that arise after corporate acquisitions and dispositions. Professor Evans has spoken to the Actuarial Society of Greater New York regarding IRS compliance and correction programs for qualified plans, and has, along with IRS officials, addressed the D.C. Bar Association with respect to 401(k) and 401(m) safe harbor nondiscrimination rules. He has also spoken to members of the Society for Human Resource Management about implementing EGTRRA's retirement plan rules.
