Biography

B.A. summa cum laude, Trinity College; J.D., College of William & Mary; M.S.L.S. with honors, Catholic University of America. Professor Callinan was with the Washington law firm of Crowell & Moring LLP from 1985 to 2001, serving as Manager of Research Services then as Webmaster. She joined the library staff at the E. B. Williams Law Library as Digital Development Librarian from 2001 to 2005. She has extensive experience in designing and teaching legal research programs, including training for the D.C. Bar, Practicing Law Institute, and the Institute for Continuing Legal Education, as well as Crowell & Moring clients, attorneys and staff. Professor Callinan founded the Research Instruction Caucus, an AALL coalition of academic and private sector librarians, created the National Legal Research Teach-In, an annual event held every April since 1993, and edited the AALL response to the MacCrate Report entitled, "Core Legal Research Competencies." Professor Callinan has lectured throughout the United States and in Australia on legal research training, has written numerous articles on the topic, and was on the editorial board of Perspectives: Teaching Legal Research and Writing (West) for nine years.
