This course provides an introduction to information privacy law both on the books and on the ground. Topics covered include the common law, constitutional, and statutory foundations of U.S. information privacy law; international approaches to information privacy law; philosophical bases for privacy protection; the political economy of surveillance societies; information privacy compliance, enforcement, and regulatory practice; and "privacy by design."
