Successful candidates will be those that are dedicated to indigent criminal defense and taking advantage of all opportunities during law school to enhance the applicant’s practice in this field. Work experience during the summer and clinical work is also extremely important.

  • The office hires directly out of law school as well as from clerkships.
  • Their only requirement is: A dedication and passion for representing indigent clients in the criminal justice system.

  • Dates: No earlier than August 1 and no later than September 30th of the year before the anticipated start date.

 

The Interview Process:

  • If granted an interview, the applicant will be invited to the office for an hour long session with the Hiring Committee (which consists of both lawyers and non-lawyers).

 

  • Documents needed: Resume and Cover Letter.

The Interview Process:

  • If granted an interview, it is normally a 20 minute phone interview with the supervisor of the summer internship program and is approximately 20 minutes in duration.

 

Responsibilities given to Interns:

  • Interns are assigned to practicing attorneys and participate in all phases of public defense work- interview, trial preparations, motion and memo writing.
  • There is an agreement with the courts that allow 2Ls to represent clients in misdemeanor matters under the supervision of an admitted attorney.
