Prosecutors

As I said in the introductory video, this list of prosecutor offices is idiosyncratic.  Students often ask me about finding offices with prosecutors who are truly focused on doing justice, not simply securing convictions.  I have surveyed friends in the field and identified a few places that students might consider. 

Beyond the list of individual offices, one friend with years of experience has the following advice for students applying to be prosecutors. She suggests you ask the following:

• Is it an office where the ADAs are really focused on justice? It might be a warning sign if it is a political office that is beholden to some other constituency. You want to look for offices that have independent minded leadership.
• Is it a career office? If people have stayed there for a long time it’s usually a good sign- it shows stability and that there is a sense of community.
• Is there good morale? Are more senior lawyers willing to make friends with and build community with incoming lawyers?
• Are there good training programs?
• Will you be given responsibility early on in your career?
• Will you have the ability to exercise discretion even as a young attorney?
