Professor Gao is a Trial Attorney with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, Enforcement Division, where her work focuses on investigating and litigating claims of fraud, market manipulation, disruptive or unfair trading practices, insider trading, and other alleged violations of the Commodity Exchange Act. Before beginning her practice with the Commission, Professor Gao was an associate at the law firm of Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP, where she represented corporate clients in government enforcement actions, complex securities litigation, and internal investigations involving federal securities laws, particularly the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. From 2009 to 2010, Professor Gao was an attorney in the appellate division of the Public Defender Services for the District of Columbia, where she represented numerous indigent defendants in criminal appeals before the District of Columbia Court of Appeals. From 2008 to 2009, Professor Gao clerked for Judge Ronald Lee Gilman in the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. She has been a member of the Georgetown Law adjunct faculty since 2016.
