Professor Losco is an antitrust attorney with Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer US LLP, resident in the D.C. office. She provides advice on a range of antitrust issues, including the U.S. merger control and review process, multi-jurisdictional merger control, anticompetitive conduct matters, and civil and criminal investigations by both federal and state authorities.
Before her present appointment in November 2011, professor Losco served as an antitrust legal consultant in the FTC’s Office of International Affairs (OIA). During her time with OIA she was involved in the U.S.-EC merger working group, tasked with updating the 2002 U.S.-EU Best Practices on Cooperation in Merger Investigations, and in the U.S.-EC Unilateral Conduct discussion group, designed to increase knowledge and mutual understanding of parallel jurisdictions’ policies. She also participated in U.S.-EC annual consultations after assisting in their preparation, and in OECD related work.
Before moving to the U.S. in 2006, professor Losco served on the faculty of Bocconi University (Milan, Italy), where she taught courses and did academic research. For six consecutive years she taught public and administrative law to Bocconi undergraduate, postgraduate, and executive students. In the years 2004-2006, she was visiting scholar at the Georgetown University Law Center.
Professor Losco is an attorney trained and licensed both in the U.S. and Europe (D.C. Bar and Milan Bar). She holds an LL.M. from the George Washington Law School, a Ph.D. from the University of Pavia, Italy, and a J.D. from the University of Milan, Italy. She was awarded the Thomas Buergenthal full tuition scholarship to pursue her graduate studies at the George Washington University, a scholarship from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Erasmus scholarship to complete her Ph.D. and J.D., respectively. Valeria is the author of several articles published in various law journals.
