Theresa Mihalik is an Adjunct Professor of Law teaching Family Law. Professor Mihalik is the managing partner in the Washington D.C. based law firm of Kuder, Smollar, Friedman & Mihalik, P.C. Professor Mihalik has extensive litigation experience, representing clients in all aspects of family and domestic relations law in the courts of Northern Virginia and the District of Columbia for more than twenty-five years. Although she has extensive litigation experience, she still believes strongly that the best resolution to a domestic relations matter is a negotiated settlement, and as such she is trained not only as a mediator, but also as a Collaborative attorney, and represents clients in the collaborative process. She also has extensive experience in drafting and negotiating prenuptial and cohabitation agreements. Prior to joining her law firm, Professor Mihalik served as a law clerk to the Honorable Rufus G. King, III, in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.
Professor Mihalik has been recognized by the Washingtonian magazine as one of the Washington D.C. area’s top family law practitioners, has been named by Super Lawyers as one of the top 50 Women Lawyers in Washington D.C., and has been selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America.
Professor Mihalik has previously taught Family Law as an adjunct faculty member at the Catholic University of America’s Columbus School of Law. She has served as a faculty member for the D. C. Bar’s Uncontested Divorce Pro Se Clinic, and has lectured on The Basics of Divorce Law for Non-Lawyers for the Collaborative Professionals of Northern Virginia, as well as the District of Columbia Association of Collaborative Professionals.
