Professor Miller is a litigator whose chief interests are environmental law and policy issues (particularly climate change and clean air), and appellate and trial advocacy. He is proud to be a staff attorney at the Sierra Club, where he advocates for the urgent transition to cleaner energy.
Prior to joining the Sierra Club, Professor Miller worked in private practice and the federal judiciary. He was an associate at two major international law firms, where his practice encompassed appellate and trial-level litigation as well as administrative proceedings, before federal and state courts and agencies. He also served as a law clerk to the Hon. Nina Pillard of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit and to the Hon. David Ebel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit in Denver. During law school, Professor Miller was a judicial intern for the Hon. Ruben Castillo of the Northern District of Illinois and a legal intern at the Environmental Law and Policy Center in Chicago.
Professor Miller graduated magna cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School, where he was awarded the Henry M. Bates Memorial Scholarship. He served as a Notes Editor on the Michigan Law Review and as a co-Chair of the Environmental Law Society, among other positions. Prior to law school, Professor Miller graduated as the Valedictorian of Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism. He was also recognized for writing the Best Thesis in Public Anthropology for his study of international awareness and attitudes about climate change and energy policies, in the course of fulfilling a second major with honors in anthropology. He also minored in Spanish, studied for a semester in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and was a varsity rower of Northwestern Crew.
Professor Miller grew up in East Lansing, Michigan.
