Suzanne Perry is Chief Counsel, Latin America at Darby Overseas Investments, Ltd., an emerging-market investment management company that is a subsidiary of Franklin Templeton Investments. Based in Washington, DC, Ms. Perry provides legal advice in connection with the activities of private equity funds that invest in Latin America. She advises on a broad range of issues including the structuring and negotiation of investment and divestment transactions and fund formation matters. A graduate of Cornell University (BA, 1994), Yale Law School (JD, 1998) and the European University Institute (LLM, 1999), Ms. Perry has approximately 15 years of experience spanning a broad range of cross-border transactions and international legal matters. While at Yale Law School, Ms. Perry was a founding member and co-managing editor of the Yale Human Rights and Development Law Journal, worked in the Lowenstein Human Rights Project, focused a significant portion of her coursework on public international law and was a recipient of the Howard M. Holtzmann Fellowship in International Dispute Resolution. Following law school she served as a stagiaire to Advocate General Antonio Saggio at the European Court of Justice and completed an LLM (European and Comparative International Law) as a Fulbright Scholar at the European University Institute. Thereafter she focused on transactional matters in private practice at leading law firms: Cleary Gottlieb (1999-2006), Baker & McKenzie (2006-2009) and Wilson Sonsini (2009-2010). Her practice has focused principally on multi-jurisdictional corporate transactions, and she has also worked on a pro bono basis on public international law and human rights matters and on matters related to environmental and socially responsible investing. Ms. Perry is a member of the bar of New York State and the District of Columbia, is a member of the American Society of International Law and previously served as a Vice-Chairman of the Inter-American Legal Affairs Committee of the DC Bar.
